He joined Rogers (then Maclean Hunter) in 1974 as a journalist for the weekly Financial Post and held a series of editorial and business roles before serving as Vice President, Consumer Marketing from 1993 to 2000.

He is on the board of directors of Magazines Canada representing Marketing Magazine, serves on the faculty of three Magazine Canada schools and has chaired the Magazines Canada Postal Committee and its steering committees for co-operative direct marketing subscription campaigns. He was named Volunteer of the Year for Magazines Canada in 2005. He is an honorary life member of the Canadian Direct Marketing Association, now the Canadian Marketing Association, and is a past chair of its board. He has served on the Magazine Directors' Advisory Committee of the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

He has a journalism degree from Michigan State University.
